My name is Mieke.

I was born in Hamburg and got my diploma in fine arts there at the HfbK.

There is no central theme in my work, as I am always inspired by my environment and world events. Mostly, however, it is the people in my environment and their various living conditions that I try to capture and appreciate in my work.

In many works, however, I also grant deep insights into my own soul life.

My imagery and the way I deal with issues allow the viewer to participate in my conciliatory view of things without depriving them of the freedom to make their own reference.

I use different media, depending on the topic, and don't let myself be pigeonholed. Since the beginning of the pandemic I have been working on the series of works and objects "Floating rocks" in order to create an exile for the soul during this difficult time. From supposedly "dry" building materials, I create strange worlds that invite you to dream.
